Richard Johnstone is an Emeritus Professor of the University of Stirling (Scotland). During his professional career he was Director of the government-funded ‘Scottish Centre for Information on Language Teaching and Research’. He has directed research projects on BE/CLIL in Scottish Gaelic and also in French for the Scottish Government, and in English for governmental Ministries in Spain, Portugal, Italy and East Asia, and continues to publish extensively in this area. Following his retirement from full-time employment he has been invited to give plenary talks on his two specialist research themes of ’BE/CLIL’ and ‘early language learning’ in several countries, particularly across Europe and Asia. With particular regard to Spain, in addition to the abovementioned Córdoba conferences, he was Director of the Independent Evaluation of the Bilingual Education Project (Spain) of the Ministry of Education (Spain) and the British Council (Spain) 2007-2010, and in collaboration with Dr. Elena Gómez Parra has co-edited two volumes of articles from a range of Spanish and other researchers on aspects of Bilingual Education and CLIL in Spain and internationally.
