Conferencia Plenaria: “English Impact. The bilingual effect”
Plenary Conference: “English Impact. The bilingual effect”, by Mark Levy, (British Council).
Presented by: Prof. Cristina A. Huertas Abril, Universidad de Córdoba (Spain).
Do bilingual programmes make a difference to students’ motivation towards language learning & their language learning outcomes?
The British Council’s recent English Impact project carried out in the Comunidad de Madrid in 2017 was a ground-breaking study in many respects, providing a reliable and comparable profile of English language capability amongst students in 4º de ESO. The study allows comparisons to be drawn between the language profiles of students in bilingual and non-bilingual schools, between females and males and between different socio-economic groups. Furthermore, researchers were able to develop valuable evidence-based insights into student motivation and language learning in bilingual and non-bilingual programmes.
In this talk I will briefly outline the research methodology used in this benchmarking study and will then focus on the key findings and what they do (& don’t) tell us.
